Rhode Island’s Lighthouses

A lighthouse is a tower building used in older times as an aid to navigation and to pilots at sea.  Lighthouses are used to mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous sandbanks and reefs, safe entries to harbors, and can also assist in aerial navigation.  Once widely used, the number of operational lighthouses nowadays has declined due to the expense of maintenance and replacement by modern electronic navigational aids.  Here in Rhode Island there are many lighthouses, and each is unique!

“ประภาคาร” นั้นเป็นอาคารประเภทหอคอยสูง ที่ในอดีตใช้เป็นเครื่องช่วยกำกับทิศทางการเดินเรือ เพื่อให้ทราบแนวทางมหาสมุทร สันทราย หรือแนวหินปะการัง ที่อาจเป็นอันตรายต่อการเข้าออกท่าเทียบจอดเรือ รวมทั้งใช้สำหรับเป็นสัญลักษณ์กำกับทิศทางการเดินอากาศ ปัจจุบันมีการใช้ประโยชน์จากประภาคารลดน้อยลง เนื่องจากมีการพัฒนาด้านเทคโนโลยีอิเล็คทรอนิคส์สมัยใหม่มากขึ้น ในมลรัฐโรดไอแลนด์นั้น มีประภาคารอยู่หลายแห่ง ซึ่งล้วนมีความแตกต่างที่เป็นสัญลักษณ์

Rhode Island Landmarks

State Capitol

The state capitol building is made of white Georgian marble. On top is the world’s fourth largest self-supported marble dome. It houses the Rhode Island Charter of 1663 and other state treasures.

First Baptist Church in America

Providence is home to the First Baptist Church in America, the oldest Baptist church in the Americas, which was founded by Roger Williams in 1638.

Newport Casino

The Newport Casino is a National Historic Landmark building complex that presently houses the International Tennis Hall of Fame and features an active grass-court tennis club.

The Towers

Scenic Route 1A (known locally as Ocean Road) in Narragansett is home to “The Towers“, a large stone arch.  It was once the entrance to the famous Narragansett casino that burned down in 1900.  The towers now serve as a tourist information center and also a banquet hall for events like weddings and birthday parties.

RHODE ISLAND

The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is more commonly known as “Rhode Island“ with its nickname “The Ocean State“. Located in the New England region of the northeastern United States, Rhode Island was the first of thirteen original American colonies to declare independence from British rule. It is the smallest state and has the longest official name.

Some Rhode Islanders declared, “Rhode Island is the center of universe.”

มลรัฐโรดไอแลนด์และโพรวิเดนซ์ เรียกกันทั่วไปว่า “โรดไอแลนด์” และมีชื่อเล่นว่า “รัฐมหาสมุทร” ตั้งอยู่ทางฝั่งตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โรดไอแลนด์เป็นหนึ่งใน 13 รัฐ ที่ได้ร่วมกันประกาศอิสรภาพจากการอยู่ภายใต้การปกครองของสหราชอาณาจักร มลรัฐโรดไอแลนด์นั้นเป็นรัฐที่มีขนาดเล็กที่สุดของสหรัฐอเมริกา แต่มีชื่อทางการที่ยาวที่สุด

ผู้คนที่อยู่อาศัยในมลรัฐโรดไอแลนด์หลายๆ คน กล่าวว่า “โรดไอแลนด์เป็นศูนย์กลางของจักรวาล”
